Punters are starting to rally behind Japanese stayer Fame Game for this year’s Melbourne Cup.
Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au reports a concerted move for Fame Game, since owner breeder Katsumi Yoshida announced plans to target the great race.
Fame Game heads betting on $15 ahead of four runners, Goldstream, Hartnell, Signoff and Quasillo, at $17.
Defending champion Protectionist ($21) is firmly entrenched on the third line.
“Yoshida’s runners, Delta Blues and Pop Rock finished one-two in 2006, so he knows what it takes to win the Cup. Support is really starting to build for Fame Game, but Protectionist remains the best backed runner,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
