ALMANDIN burst back onto stage on Saturday and is now favourite to win consecutive Melbourne Cups.
The stayer returned to the racetrack at Moonee Valley on Saturday as the most famous horse to race anywhere in Australia on the day.

The eight-year-old hadn’t raced since his desperate win over Heartbreak City in November. He blew in the market, from $8.50 out to $10, as the money came for his stablemate Hans Holbein who raced up on the speed and was backed from $4.60 into $4.20.
As far out as the 700m it was obvious Hans Holbein was no Almandin.
Jockey Ben Melham tracked wide from the 1000m on Almandin in the MSC Signs Handicap (2040m) and ranged to the leaders on the turn. Hans Holbein dropped out to run fifth. Read More…
