Just days after impressing in a Caulfield trial ahead of some serious spring assignments highly regarded import Django Freeman has been ruled out for the spring.
Early Friday morning the Robert Hickmott stable reported to Racing Victoria stewards that Django Freeman had been found to have a bone chip in his near fore knee.
He has now been ruled out for the spring features for which he was a $51 chance to win the Cox Plate while the entire was a $26 chance in both Caulfield and Melbourne Cup betting.
Django Freeman had been purpose-bought for the major spring carnival races and had a jump-out over 800m at Caulfield on Tuesday in what was the first serious hit-out Hickmott had given the horse since arriving in Australia.
The lightly raced northern hemisphere three-year-old has only raced four times for one win and three second placings with his latest run being a second in the Group I German Derby back in July. Read More …
