2015 Melbourne Cup – On Monday the race that stops a nation will bring the city of Melbourne to a standstill with the Emirates Melbourne Cup Parade as it makes its way down Swanston Street to Federation Square between 12pm – 2pm.
Media wishing to access participants in the parade for interviews or vision must meet at the marshalling point in Bourke St at 11.30am to collect a wristband for access to the Parade route.
Tens of thousands will line the streets to watch the iconic Emirates Melbourne Cup Parade, featuring the race’s trainers and jockeys, travel through Melbourne’s central thoroughfare. Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and VRC Chairman Michael Burn will carry the $175,000 18 carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup, to be presented to the winning owner on Tuesday.
2015 Melbourne Cup – Emma Freedman will greet the Parade’s participants for a green carpet arrival into Federation Square on the eve of the $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup.
Flemington’s Myer Fashions on the Field will add plenty of style to proceedings, featuring this year’s State Finalists, Ambassador Georgia Connolly, and MCs James Tobin and Nikki Phillips.
Living legends, both equine and human, will be honoured with Might And Power, Brew, Rogan Josh, Paris Lane, Efficient and Maluckyday joining Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour Ambassadors, who have accompanied the Cup on its 33 destination journey around Australia and New Zealand.
Family of the late Bart Cummings—including grandsons Edward and James, with wife Monica, and son Anthony Cummings, with wife Bernadette—will travel the route in a horse drawn carriage with Light Finger’s 1965 Melbourne Cup trophy. In a tribute to the Cups King, the Parade will feature each of his 12 Melbourne Cup trainer’s trophies and his famous racing colours.
Pin & Win charity partner Starlight Children’s Foundation CEO Louise Baxter and ambassador Mel Vallejo will encourage fans to purchase a lapel pin to enter the draw to win incredible prizes including a Lexus NX 200t F Sport and one million Emirates Skywards Miles.
Participants will be swept down Swanston Street in a sea of colour, featuring the Mansfield High Country Horsemen, primary school children dressed in jockey silks, Emirates cabin crew, and a host of dancers and musical performers.
At Federation Square, fans will be treated to a performance from X-Factor contestant Nathaniel, as well as face painting, balloon artistry and the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Emirates Melbourne Cup at the Starlight Marquee for a gold coin donation.
At the end of the Parade, the Emirates Melbourne Cup jockeys and trainers will give their thoughts at the official media conference ahead of Tuesday’s big race.
More than 100,000 racegoers are expected at Flemington on Tuesday for the $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup, the world’s richest handicap race.
2015 Melbourne Cup – Tickets for the Melbourne Cup Carnival are still available for purchase from Flinders Street, Southern Cross and North Melbourne train stations or racegoers can jump the queues and buy online from Ticketek on mobile phones to scan at the turnstiles.
