Lee Freedman is now considering the Makybe Diva Stakes as a first-up option for Our Ivanhowe after the German import impressed in a Flemington jumpout on Thursday morning.
Our Ivanhowe settled off the pace early before working strongly through the line over 1200m, drawing away from his rivals, many of whom only really galloped over 800m.
And while the Underwood Stakes, run at Caulfield over 1800m, was Freedman’s initial kick-off point, the Hall Of Fame trainer is now leaning to the shorter Makybe Diva Stakes, run at Flemington over 1600m on September 10.
“I was really pleased with him, we rode him quiet early and then let him finish off on the course proper, he was strong to the line, being the horse he is, he really liked the softer ground,” Freedman said.
