The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) will officially launch the 2015 Melbourne Cup Carnival on Monday 26 October with a star-studded event at Flemington.

At 10.15am media can capture a dramatic horseback entrance into the Pre-parade Ring by Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Georgia Connolly and her predecessors Rebeccah Panozza, Rebecca Stoneman and Alison Saville – bearing the feature Melbourne Cup Carnival trophies.

Hosted by Channel Seven Sunrise presenter Mark Beretta, official proceedings will commence at 11am with the Minister for Racing, the Hon Martin Pakula, on hand to declare the 2015 Melbourne Cup Carnival officially open.

The ‘Cups King’ Bart Cummings’ record-breaking 12 Melbourne Cup trophies will be on display alongside his Flemington statue, coinciding with a special announcement by VRC Chairman Michael Burn on how the legendary trainer will be remembered this Carnival.

Connections of leading contenders will be in attendance to speak about their chances in the Carnival’s major Group 1 races and available to media following the event.

Models will showcase the Myer racewear looks of the four days and Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Georgia Connolly will highlight the looks of the season.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival begins on Saturday 31 October with AAMI Victoria Derby Day, and continues with Emirates Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 3 November, Crown Oaks Day on Thursday 5 November and concludes with Emirates Stakes Day on Saturday 7 November.

More than 325,000 racegoers are expected to attend the four days at Flemington, which last year injected $374.2 million into the Victorian economy.

More than $17 million in prize money will be won by connections, with $6.2 million on offer in the Emirates Melbourne Cup, the world’s richest handicap.

Tickets are still available for purchase from Flinders Street, Southern Cross and North Melbourne train stations or jump the queues and buy online from Ticketek on your mobile.
